Summertime’s up, and the livin’ is easy – well, almost! It’s just around the corner. Here in Napa, life is already filled with beautiful sunny days, warm weather, and luxurious moment spent lounging outdoors. If you’re coming to Napa this season, you’re in for a treat; there’s so much to see and do, especially for the true nature lovers. Setting aside the incredible wine you’ll taste, here’s a few sublime summer swimming spots to tempt you into exploration and adventure.
Lake Berryessa is a local favorite, and there’s a good reason for that. This gigantic lake sits at the center of Napa and offers access to everything from wading to full-on swimming and other watersports like jet skis, canoes, sailing, and more. It’s also one of the premiere fishing spots for those who love to relax and fish for sport or fun.
Berryessa’s size means there’s plenty of shoreline and space for everyone to stretch out. If you come during tourist season, you’ll see just how easy it is to find a place of your own, even among the crowds. It doesn’t hurt that it’s absolutely stunning, either.
Yountville Crossroads Park
Taking the kids to Napa with you this year? You can be sure they’ll push for outdoor adventures; when they do, we have you covered. Yountville Crossroads Park has plenty of space for picnics, playing games, and yes, swimming, too – in fact, there’s a neat little place with a swinging rope set up where locals while away the summer days cooling off.
This particular location is also the start of the Napa River Ecological Reserve, and boasts a one-mile trail filled with local flora and fauna. See this link for how to find, access, and enjoy the area, including a list of animals you might spot.
Bothe-Napa Valley State Park
While technically situated just a few miles north of Napa County, in Calistoga, also has a remarkable spring-fed swimming pool that makes for a lovely day trip. It’s also one of the only places inland with extremely old natural growth redwood forest, making it a special stopover even if you don’t get in.
Coming soon? You’re in luck. The pool opens on Memorial Day and stays open right through Labor Day on weekends 12 to 6 p.m. Once you’re finished swimming, we highly recommend heading up to the trails for a hike – they’re nearly as lovely as the pool.
