Bored of Staying at Home? Attend a Virtual Wine Tasting in Napa Valley!

April 08, 2020
Category: Napa Valley Things To Do

Sheltering in place doesn’t mean that you have to give up drinking your favorite wines! Some Napa Valley wineries are hosting virtual wine tastings to engage customers and stay afloat during this difficult time. Not only are these virtual tastings good for business, but also they’re good for consumers!

As people grow tired of staying at home, they are looking for new ways to connect with others and stay busy. A virtual wine tasting is an excellent way to do this while staying safe and following the social distancing guidelines.

How Does a Virtual Wine Tasting Work?

Small wineries are known for their hospitality and welcoming people into their tasting rooms. Unfortunately, many can’t do this right now due to the stay at home order. However, some wineries are using this as an opportunity to host virtual wine tastings.

To participate in a virtual tasting, you choose the winery, purchase wine online from their website and get a unique link or code that allows you to join a meeting. The tastings are held according to a predetermined schedule, allowing you to talk with others, share your feedback and pair the wine with different foods. Each winery is a bit different, but this is the general experience you can expect.

What Napa Wineries are Offering Virtual Tastings?

Northern California’s wine country consists of four counties: Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake. Here are some of the wineries offering virtual tastings in the Napa region.

  • St. Supery Estate Vineyards and Winery. Located in Rutherford, CA, this winery has had successful wine tastings in both March and April. The Great Sustainable Seafood Tasting Kit features six wines and a virtual tasting every Thursday on Zoom for 6 weeks.
  • B Cellars. B Cellars is located in Oakville, CA and is offering virtual wine tastings from the comfort of home. Visit their site and pick out your favorite tasting bundle. You’ll then get more information about booking a private guided tour via Zoom.
  • Clos Du Val. Clos Du Val is nestled in Napa, CA. Select one of the virtual tasting packages and receive a reservation link where you can book your tasting. Tastings last for 60-90 minutes and cover the wine and history of the vineyards.
  • AXR Winery. Situated in St. Helena, CA, AXR Winery has various wine offerings for virtual tastings. Choose your tasting bundle and you’ll receive an invitation to learn more about the current release wines.

A virtual wine tasting may sound like all fun, but you are actually supporting a small business while socially connecting with others. It’s a great way to help out the local economy while expanding your palate. For more ideas on how to support Napa Valley during this time, visit Napa Valley Hotel and Suites’ blog.
