Arts and Culture: Visiting di Rosa
Many people focus on restaurants and wine when they think of the Napa Valley. While it’s true that the area is well known for its culinary expertise, you may be pleasantly surprised to find there are a myriad of other hidden gems throughout the area as well. If you’re a lover of fine arts and culture, you will certainly appreciate a trip to di Rosa, where art comes to life.
Why You Should Visit
As you explore the southern end of the valley you’ll eventually stumble upon a herd of sheep. They’re not normal sheep, though. It’s a herd of painted metal sheep and they are the first sign that you’re somewhere near di Rosa, an extraordinary, whimsical contemporary art gallery hidden among the farms and vineyards.
The di Rosa features three indoor and outdoor galleries over 217 acres. You’ll also find a sculpture park, a large lake, and a wildlife preserve on the property – all protected in perpetuity by the Napa County Land Trust. The open space gives supporters the opportunity to combine a love of art with a love of native plants and wildlife. With more than 2,000 individual pieces on display at any given time, the vast majority of the works displayed come from Bay Area artists.
There’s always something special happening at di Rosa. Between February 6 and April 3rd, you’ll find the Radical Landscapes collection in the Gatehouse Gallery. The pieces in this display focus on changes in our natural environment, climate change, and the rapidly evolving world as a whole.
