Considering making a trip to Napa this year – or maybe in the New Year instead? If you’re a true wine connoisseur (or even someone who loves a good whiskey on the rocks), Napa will delight and excite you. We have some of the most famous and well-known wineries in the country right in our backyard. Tours are easy to access and filled with opportunities to indulge, but finding the truly special takes a little bit more work. These exclusive, appointment-only tasting experiences showcase some of the best Napa has to offer, helping you make memories that really last.
Arietta classes itself as an “ultra-premium” Napa winery; perhaps that’s why it’s so exclusive. It isn’t easy to get an appointment with this truly special location, but if you can, every sip is well-worth the experience.
Owned by Fritz Halton and his wife, Caren Halton, Arietta serves up some of the region’s best colder-climate vintages. Their Bordeaux blends are always limited edition; take a bottle home during your visit and you really do take home a true treasure. This is an upscale experience that delivers the “best of the best.”

Located in St. Helena just a short drive away from Napa’s center, Wheeler Farms makes a visit feel like coming home. This small-but-stately winery isn’t open to the public; you can visit, but they only offer pre-booked appointments.
Wheeler Farms offers three appointment levels to help you create the perfect experience. At the lower end is “Wines of Wheeler Farms,” a basic tasting experience. Next is the “Wheeler Farms to Table Experience,” which also includes delicious gourmet foods. At the top is their Winemakers of Wheeler Farms package, which also includes a tour of the grounds and details on how the winery came to be.

Chateau Montelena, located at the top of a winding road right next to the stunning Napa River. This fairy-tale like location was originally created in 1882, but remains one of the most treasured and picturesque locations in the Napa Valley. They aren’t exclusively appointment-oriented (in fact, you can drop by for basic tastings during open hours). However, you will need reservations to taste the most special wines.
Choose from Chateau Montelena’s many reservable packages to customize the perfect experience. There’s the Library Tasting, where you’ll sip wine and learn the winery’s history inside a beautiful, impeccably-kept library. For warmer weather, try the Estate or Vineyard tour and sip your favorite blend as learn about how they grow their grapes and what makes the location so special. At the most exclusive is their Cellarmaster Tasting experiences – they’re only available to Wine Club members.
