October is synonymous with pumpkins, and what better way to celebrate the season than by picking your very own gourd from a pumpkin patch? Wine Country is a great place to celebrate autumn since it’s harvest season and the vines and leaves are changing color. The rolling hills, country setting and mild temperatures make a day in the Valley simply perfect. In fact, many families plan a weekend getaway that includes golf for Dad, boutique shopping for Mom and pumpkin farms for the kids. Of course, you can’t beat the new fall menus being offered by many of the local restaurants.

Local Pumpkin Patches

There are plenty of pumpkin farms to visit around the local area, with Stanly Lane Pumpkin Patch being one of Napa’s very own. Other nearby patches include Larry’s Produce, Suisun Valley Pumpkin Patch and Cool Patch Pumpkins. While each pumpkin patch has something unique it prides itself on, you can expect to enjoy things like hayrides, corn mazes, corn stalks, baby animals and kid-friendly parks. There are also hay bales and hay pyramids to climb on at many of the patches.

Western Railway Museum Events

If you want to stay close to Napa, the family will love the Pumpkin Patch Festival at Western Railway Museum. Every Saturday and Sunday from October 12-27, the museum runs Pumpkin Patch Trains that takes visitors on a historic life-size electric train. Visitors ride for five miles from Gum Grove Station, and rides run every 30 minutes from 9:30 am to 4 pm. When the train ride is over, stop by the pumpkin patch to pick out your very own pumpkin. There is also a hay bale fort, tractor rides, music, games and food.

Since Napa Valley is celebrating harvest season, you can also enjoy various festivals, grape crushes and crush camps that are going on as well. The crowds are still large enough that Napa Valley remains fun and social, but the biggest crowds have died down from the summer. Also, the weather complements a day picking pumpkins and running through corn mazes. Fall lasts just a short time, so don’t miss out on your opportunity to experience Napa Valley soaked in autumn colors.
