We know what you’re thinking – hiking in Napa? Yes, most people think of wine, food, vineyards and farm-to-table freshness when they think of Napa, but there are plenty of activities, hiking included, in Napa Valley. The Vaca and Mayacama mountain ranges that provide the backdrop to the valley are also great places to hike and the best opportunity to work off all the food and wine you are enjoying. Here are some great hikes you can enjoy in Napa Valley:

  • Skyline Wilderness Park – with 850 acres and 25 miles of trails – one that leads to Lake Marie – this is a great place to come for the day and explore. Most trails are not strenuous and the ridge trail offers some fabulous views all the way across the bay on a clear day.
  • Bothe Napa Valley State Park – up the valley in Calistoga, this state park boasts over 2,000 acres and redwoods. Lots of family activities nearby and trails run along creeks.
  • Westwood Hills Park – on the way to the Hess Collection, you’ll find this quaint park with just three miles of diversely forested trail. Open meadows mix with dense wooded areas, and this park offers some great views of Napa as well as perfect spots to picnic.
  • Robert Louis Stevenson State Park – this is the grand-daddy of Napa parks and has 5,000 acres as well as Mt. St. Helena and a statue of the famous author for which the park was named. It’s definitely a great workout and if you’re lucky, you can see as far as the Sierra Nevada.

See? Napa Valley isn’t all about wines and wineries. Of course, what better way to end your day of hiking than by sipping a tasty new wine and gazing out over the sunset falling across the vineyards of Napa? This just might be the most perfect place.

Stay with us at the Napa Valley Hotel and Suites and you can drop your hiking boots on the porch.
